Isidor Buchmann grew up in a conservative farming community in Switzerland. From childhood on he was fascinated with radio communications and received the post-graduate education in radio technology in Lucerne. He immigrated to Canada where he married and began pursuing work in electronics. When nothing materialized, he pooled his savings together and started his own company. In a small room at home, he worked on his inventions long into the night while raising a family of five children. As the business became self-sufficient, his wife became mentally unstable and caused serious family dysfunction that led to divorce. The hardship and rift with Christian friends over divorce persuaded him to share his experience in a book. Though a firm believer in marriage who places divorce equal to tragedies such as illness, accidents and death, he found the exit through divorce it necessary for the sake of his children.
Isidor currently lives in Burnaby, BC, Canada (suburb of Vancouver) where he is the CEO of Cadex Electronics Inc., a manufacturing company that employs a staff of about 70, and sells products in 100 countries. Isidor has written articles for over 200 trade magazines, including one that was an award winner. His first book, Batteries in a Portable World — A Handbook on Rechargeable Batteries for Non-Engineers, was published in 1997 (He added new material and released the second edition in 2001). He hopes that his newest book, God's Grace in Divorce: Choosing Between Preserving the Marriage and Protecting the Children will offer hope to those torn by mental illness and misunderstood by divorce. For his next book he hopes to minister to people who have become skeptical about their belief system, in hopes of bringing lost sheep back.
Book Recap:
God’s Grace in Divorce: Choosing Between Preserving the Marriage and Protecting the Children speaks to Christians who have experienced divorce for just cause and are questioning God's Grace. The book tells a true story of a marriage, mental illness, family dysfunction, divorce, religious controversies and eventual victory. The narrative is written from the author’s heart, revealing God’s enduring love during troubled times and the power of healing through prayer and perseverance. The book describes the author’s Christian upbringing and marriage, his wife’s spiral into the unpredictable ups and downs of bipolar disorder, and the troubling episodes of excessive spending, denial, and refusal to seek medical help that quickly followed. As the children suffer, divorce seems likely the only option. Christian friends advise against this move, forcing the husband to proceed without the support of a spiritual community. Readers follow him as he copes with disappointments, only to emerge from the dark betrayal tunnel as a stronger person, underscoring the importance of forgiveness when it’s least possible. While, divorce clearly wasn’t desirable, the ending is victorious in that God replenished what the locusts had eaten.
